Facilitation – I heart Huckabees (2004)

Here’s a great example of how a group meeting can escalate into a fight…

It shows how a lack of coordination and facilitation can make it difficult for members of a group to participate positively in a decision-making process. The clip comes from the movie ‘I heart Huckabees’ (2004) which is about a young man that calls on two ‘existential detectives’ to help him solve a personal crisis.

In this clip we see Albert (Jason Schwartzman’s character) trying to keep control over his ‘Open Spaces Coalition’, which he created to fight suburban sprawl and protect a local marsh. His coalition is being hijacked by Brad (Jude Law’s character) who works for the Huckabees corporation and who is set on getting rid of Albert and ‘his strategy of poems’.

Also pay attention to Mark Wahlberg’s character, who backs up Albert, but who is having an existential crisis of his own!

This clip is not only very educational, but also incredibly funny!
